Overhead Cranes

An overhead crane, also called overhead travelling crane, is a particular type of crane that lifts, lowers and moves a load horizontally. It is mainly used inside industrial buildings with the aim to move heavy or bulky loads. The main areas of application are the steel industry and the automotive industry.

This kind of industrial crane consists of parallel runways with a travelling bridge spanning the gap. In contrast to gantry cranes, the supporting structure of overhead cranes is fixed in location, often in the form of the walls or ceiling of a building, to which is attached a movable hoist, the lifting component of a crane, running overhead along a rail or beam.
