Stertil Stokvis has launched the universal Combilok®, an exclusively-developed restraint system for vehicles parked at loading bays.
Loading bays are notoriously accident-prone areas where good communication between drivers and distribution centre personnel is essential. Integrated into a wheel-alignment guide through which the truck is centred in the dock shelter, a Stertil Combilok® wheel-restraint system can prevent accidents in the loading bay.
The control system is installed in the warehouse and operates the hydraulic movement of a wheel block towards the rear wheel of the truck. An in-built sensor determines the position of the wheel and the wheel block is then automatically extended and pushed against the rear wheel, restraining the vehicle. Not only does this improve safety for drivers and loading bay staff, but also eliminates damage to expensive goods and equipment.
The movement of the wheel block is accompanied by audible and visual alarms. These features are supported by a visual alarm on the control panel to show that the truck has been effectively restrained. When the Combilok® is removed, a clear LED traffic light shows green to indicate it is safe for the truck to leave the dock. The wheel restraint has an integral micro-processor for trouble-free control, which has various options available to enhance overall safety, including combined interlocks with dock levellers and/or overhead doors.
The versatility of the wheel restraint principle means that the Combilok® is suitable for all kinds of commercial vehicle with a ground clearance of 35cm or more. Its robust construction prevents potential collision damage and, as well as restraining vehicles safely, it helps guard against theft. The Combilok® is easily installed above ground and can be assembled on smooth surfaces like stelcon plates, making it ideal for both new and existing sites.
Thermically-galvanised and hydraulically operated, the design of the Stertil Combilok® system utilises a minimal number of moving parts to ensure that it is safe, simple and inexpensive both to install and maintain.
