The Markem-Imaje 4000 Series, a large character drop-on-demand (DOD) valve-jet printer, is designed for secondary packaging coding applications. Its features include advanced printing capabilities incorporating innovative simplicity and flexibility through:

- a versatile controller capable of driving up to 4 printheads
- an advanced connectivity system for easy network integration
4020 Features include:
- automatic printing of date, time, 2 expiration dates, shift code, 3 counters (sequential numbering), user prompt, external variables and bitmap files
- real time status indication with head detection and low ink level alert
- interactive operation including print height adjustment, conveyor speed detection and pulse encoder installation
- 7 nozzle printheads for 1 line of text and 16 nozzle printheads for 2 lines of 7-dot text or 1 line of 16-dot text
- multi-side printing capable
- 8 to 64 mm print heights (3/8" to 2 ½ ")
- print speeds up to 90 m/min (295 ft/min)
- large capacity ink systems available in 4,5-liter, 5-gallon and 30-liter barrels
- 2 RS-232 high speed com ports and LAN (Ethernet) for remote control
- FTP server for easy back-up and file transfer
