Press release
Crawford UK Limited has been servicing the sectional overhead doors at KMF Precision Sheet Metal Ltd based in Newcastle under Lyme for some many years. So when KMF were building an extension on to their existing factory they approached Crawford to quote for some new doors.
However KMF had some very strict criteria including that the temperature had to be controlled due to the manufacturing process, staff had to be kept warm as they were becoming cold when the doors were constantly being opened and the requirement to avoid as much heat loss as possible due to energy efficiency.
Due to the elevated position of the KMF building it was also important to specify a door which could withstand high wind speeds, Crawford’s 855 High Speed Door met all these requirements as it is designed to suit 28m/second wind loading.
The main benefit of the high speed door is that it can withstand demanding use and even collisions. If the bottom bar is knocked out of its guide rails, the door stops and automatically reverses back to its starting position and repositions itself correctly in its guide rails. The door is ready to use again – an instant self-repair and far less cost to repair for KMF as this reduces call out charges. Induction loops were also installed both sides of the door opening with additional safety photo cell beams so that when a fork lift approaches the door, it opens speedily and when the fork lift has exited the door, it shuts safely.
KMF also have a service contract with Crawford which provides them with piece of mind to ensure that the doors are regularly maintained and, if a repair is needed, Crawford have a 24hr 7 day a week operation with 50 engineers based around the UK with which to fulfil any emergency.
KMF are the market leader in the manufacture of precision sheet metal components. They are committed to Quality, Investment and Innovation to provide contract manufacturing solutions to a diverse range of industry sectors.
KMF’s year on year capital investment in state of the art processing equipment, ensures that their customers benefit from best cost, quality and delivery.
Terry Stanway, Purchasing Manager at KMF comments on the Crawford service “The service levels provided by Crawford, from the original site survey through to the final commissioning of the equipment has been exemplary. The first installation was for three doors to a site extension. The benefits to KMF, of the new doors have been such that we have now placed an order to install the same product to the remaining entry points in the building.”
