Press release
Installation of a 60,400m² concrete floor at a new distribution centre in Buckinghamshire for John Lewis department stores has been completed on time and within budget to the design and under the supervision of Face Consultants Ltd (FACE).
John Lewis appointed FACE to ensure that the floor at the new DC was designed and installed to maximise efficiency and minimise maintenance in the future. FACE was involved in the project from initial design concepts to final hand-over.
FACE first advised John Lewis on the floor requirements for the new warehouse, including issues such as floor flatness, to enable trucks to operate as efficiently as possible, and the position of floor joints.
For the 10,000m² in and around the racking, FACE specified a floor to the latest Concrete Society TR34 DM1 standard, while the Concrete Society FM2 Special standard was used for the rest of the building. A 215mm-thick reinforced concrete floor slab was specified throughout, with saw-cut joints positioned to allow for mezzanines, high-bay racking and sorting and packing facilities.
FACE Consultants checked that the sub-base was to the required standards, supervised the installation of the floor and tested the finished structure. The flatness standards were achieved throughout the building without any grinding.
